online shopping for stylish designer raw silk handloom sarees collection by unnatisilks

Silk is a natural fibre shiny and lustrous, traditionally accepted as the finest and purest in yarns, hence considered as the fabric to be worn for religious occasions and traditional festivals in India. A prevailing custom, followed till date, its look and feel, its strength and lack of creases make it the preferred fabric for Indian women. Added to it are the endearing qualities of softness, smooth feel, warm and comfortable in the appropriate climatic conditions. Silk be of any form or variety, these natural properties are common to all.

Raw silk sarees are liked by Indian women for the simple reason that there is a slightly dull to faint lustre that gives it a special look. Because of its slightly rough texture compared to pure silk, the colors on the saree assume a strange but liked vitality. The already grand looking saree is further given touch of elegance and captivating beauty by thematic prints, lovely bootis and other such decorative features on the pallu or end piece.

Raw silk is a filament yarn from which the gummy substance that comes with the silken yarn has not been separated. This sericin or sticky substance is removed by putting the cocoons in boiling water so that the gum separates out. The filament yarn is too fine to be woven directly. Hence the uneven strands are reeled in by hand and uniform strands are formed to make it suitable for weaving. Raw silk is of light biege to yellow colour.

Since the yarn is not even and lacks lustre, raw silk weaving produces a slightly dull and coarser fabric than one from pure silks. Raw silk threads are washed in soapy water to get some shine and then dyeing is done. Hand reeled threads can be combined to desired thickness for thin and light fabrics and for slightly heavier fabrics. Raw silk can be dyed with both natural and artificial dyes.

There have been good fusion experiments on display in the exclusive raw silk collection of sarees till date. You have the eye-catching portion of the fabric, the pallu, subject to floral prints combined with embroidery, floral designer prints with checks or abstract patterns. You have dupion ghicha raw silk sarees in awesome colors, with the correct combination of field and borders with good designer prints on the pallu or end piece. The lustrous offerings with the zari borders make for rich lush fabrics that would do very well for any occasion.

online shopping for traditional kerala kasavu cotton sarees collection by unnatisilks

The Kerala Cotton Saree adapted from Mundum Neriyathum, the traditional attire of Malayali women in the South Indian state of Kerala, has been modified suitably, to also appeal to the changing times.

Considered as one of the oldest forms of the modern day saree, Mundu (the lower garment) and Neriyathu (the upper garment) together form the Mundum Neriyathum. The Mundum Neriyathum consists of the lower part of the body covered by the Mundu, lower garment also worn by traditional men in Kerala and the Neriyathu, draping the upper torso, from right hip to left shoulder over the blouse, with the portion beyond the shoulder left hanging.

Borrowing from this traditional costume, the Kerala Cotton Saree of white or cream with golden or broad Zari border, which gives it the name of Kerala Kasavu Sari, is worn specially for festivals. As with Mundum Neriyathum, the blouse matches the Kerala Cotton Saree for festive occasions with colours based on the age and marital status of the woman. A green coloured blouse would be for young, unmarried girls, while the married and middle aged women wear red blouses. Modern day prints on the cotton fabric with coloured borders and popular designs of peacock and temple adorn the pallu, making the Handloom Kerala Cotton Sarees popular as daily wear.

The Kerala Cotton Saree woven from unbleached cotton or Kora cloth and with golden Jari border with motifs of animals, birds, peacocks, flowers, fruits and leaves is highly popular.  Adding style also to the handloom cotton sarees are motifs of checks and stripe patterns on wooden block prints using vegetable dyes.
A popular variety of the Kerala Cotton Saree has Zari Buttas and a Resham Zari Border, coupled with an elegant pallu, preferred as occasion wear in corporate offices, colleges and schools. It also appeals as novel wear during festivals.
Equally enticing is the Kerala Cotton Sari with block printed motifs and multi-thread embroidered border in half-half pattern with contrasting colours. It makes it suitable for daily casual, office wear during summer and traditional functions.

online shop for latest celebrity pure bengal dupion silk hand painted sarees by unnatisilks

Bengal is famous for its handloom silk saris. Fine, smooth, of good texture, airy and light on the body, the Bengal Silk Saree is preferred for almost any occasion from daily casual to traditional occasions, social functions to grand parties and weddings.

Prominent among the silk handloom saris of Bengal is the Baluchari and the Tangail Jamdhani. Fine count quality weaves, each has its specialty. The appeal of the Baluchari Saree lies in its colour harmony. Colours preferred are red, green, yellow, blue and their shades. Silk brocade designs suited to the base colour, are decorated with attractive motifs. The Pallav or Pallu is generally adorned by folk lore or mythological themes.

Balucharis are made from silk. With silk brocade designs suited to the base colour, they are decorated with attractive motifs. One of the major themes that adorn the Pallav or Pallu of the Baluchari Sarees are mythological stories depicted on the walls of the terra cotta temples that the Malla rulers had built and are located in present day Bengal.

The Malla dynasty rule had influenced motifs and the narratives from the Indian epics Mahabharata and Ramayana were obvious subjects for depictions on the thematic pallus. Today floral motifs are very popular. Many figured patterns have also been introduced. Baluchari Sarees are preferred as soft and comfortable wear, for their fine weave and stylish looks. Some popular themes of today as flower bunches, animals, court scenes of an earlier era, boat etc. adorning the Baluchari Saree make them most attractive and apt for a variety of occasions; be it wedding ceremonies, parties, grand functions, social gatherings or as corporate wear.

The current trend of increasing use of organic materials, has found its way into the experimental manufacture of the Baluchari Organic Sari. Fine blends of cotton with both banana fibres and bamboo shoots replace the silk yarn, while acidic dyes have been substituted with dyes made from extracts of fruits, vegetables, leaves, turmeric etc. Jamdhani hand weaving is a necessary accompaniment for Bengal Silk sarees where cotton and gold thread weaving create motifs of geometric patterns and floral designs in colourful hues. Dhania Khali and thangail are popular weaving styles and the sarees like the Thangail Jamdhani weave have popular motifs like Nature, the sun, the moon and stars.

A Baluchari Sari was once worn only by women from the upper class and landlord families in Bengal during festive occasions and weddings. Today it is widely worn without distinction in many parts of the country on various occasions. Post-independence revival by a person named Subho Thakur, through the weaving skills of Das, a weaver from Bishnupur and knowledgeable in this art form, restored the glory of this fine weave once again.

This time round the Baluchari Saree once hand-woven, was tried out on Jacquard looms and the success of the experiment is now for all to see in the current weaving method of this art weave. The Baluchari saree has won the Presidential award on two occasions for its weaving style and has been prominently displayed in international trade fairs.
